A Letter to Christianity Today

Dear Christianity Today, First, thank you for speaking out about Trump. Thank you for sticking to your guns about it when you got flack. Thank you for being willing to lose subscribers over it. When you did that I was cheering you on. I even considered getting a subscription to your magazine. But then a question came into my head. Where were you? Look, I get that you don’t want to mix religion with politics. It’s not a good mix. Perhaps you felt it wasn’t your place to do so. But I’m not talking about politics here. I’m talking about moral behavior which is your place to address. So where were you? Where were you when Trump talked about killing the families of terrorists. You realize that means murdering children. Did you speak out about that? Where were you when he bragged about sexual assault. When he used vulgarity to reduce at least half of your readership to sex objects. When he bragged about going into teenage girls locker rooms because he felt he had a right to see them naked. I get it, no one is perfect. But we're not talking about imperfection here. We're talking about criminal activity. Where were you to speak out against that. Surely that's not considered moral or lawful behavior.

Where were you when he prevented Muslim citizens who were out of the country on business or vacation from returning home. Many were prevented from being with their spouses and children. I thought Christians were supposed to be for families. Why didn't you say something then about how important families are and how Jesus loves everyone? Where were you when he mocked a disabled man? Or when he encouraged violence at his rallies? Or when he denigrated prisoners of war? Or when he called the mothers of football players names? Where were you when it was discovered that he paid off porn stars from election funds? Sure, I get it. You are against adultery but you don't think it's your place to call out an adulterer because adultery is no one else's business. But what about saying something when he rips families apart? Like when he takes babies out of the arms of mothers who are seeking refuge. You're concerned about abortion - but not concerned about mothers and babies? Where were you when he was throwing kids in prison, making them sleep on cement floors, not giving them enough food, denying them healthcare, education, loving arms, warm blankets, books, room to play and even soap and toothpaste? Where were you then? And where were you when he took those children and sent them to different places in the country without telling their parents. Where were you when those children were falsely told that their parents didn't love them and didn't want them anymore? Where were you when he lost the records making it almost impossible to reunite these children with their parents? Where were you when guards took everything away from adults at the border. All personal belongings. Cash, cell phones, even rosaries. I don't know how you see Catholics but they're Christians too, and you didn't say a thing when their religious possessions were taken away. How would you feel if someone took away your bible and the cross around your neck? Where were you when those people were then thrown out of the country and their belongings weren't given back. Including and most importantly THEIR CHILDREN. That's theft and kidnapping. Where were you when false prophets such as Paula White and con man Jim Bakker proclaimed him a savior and compared him to Jesus? Were you just waiting until you got what you wanted? Because frankly, it sucks that you weren't there. That now you're playing the hero riding in on a white horse, late for the battle, and basking in the cheers. If the Christian community had stood up against Trump in the first place, instead of supporting him, then more than likely there wouldn't be so many destroyed lives now and the states wouldn't be on the brink of war. and the world wouldn't hate the U.S. And real Christians wouldn't have felt so alone as they tried to figure out how to reconcile their belief in Christ's teachings with the guy who so many Christians openly supported and praised. Because it can't be reconciled. You put real Christians out alone to sea by staying quiet while so much of the Christian community was vocal in their support. While the "Christian" community knelt down and honored the golden calf, you stood silently by not even offering support to those few vocal Christians who stood up and told everyone how wrong it all was. You were needed then. And you did nothing. It's great that you're here now. You're needed.

But where the heck were you?
