IF I Had A Million Dollars

Mr. Hoagie. Mr. Hoagie was my 7th-grade teacher. At that time, 7th grade was still elementary school. The top grade, the kings and queens of the school, but still elementary. We had one teacher who taught it all. Mr. Hoagie loved creative writing. He would give us a topic, and we would have to write stories related to the topic. The first topic he ever gave us was, "If I had a million dollars." This was back when a million dollars was a lot of money. And so I decided not to do the usual thing of writing about what I would do with a million dollars. I ended up writing a story where I already had a million dollars - only there was a twist at the end where it turned out I didn't have a million dollars, I was just dreaming while sitting in prison. We had a week to write it. Then he would take them home, mark them, and read out his favourites. He read out several of them, and then he said, "In all my years of teaching, I have never had a student write something this advanced (or something like that I can't remember exactly only that it was very complimentary)." Then he read out my story. He always read my stories out loud after that. He was the first person to tell me I had talent. Sadly, that talent never made me much money. I never became a J.K. Rowling, or an Agatha Christie, or Judy Blume, or Beverly Cleary, or Erma Bombeck. I tried. Oh, I tried. I even had a humour column for several years. But just when success was at my fingertips, it would be snatched away. However, I still write books. I've published them on Amazon. This year I'm working on getting them into paperback and hardcover editions for those people who like to hold a real book in their hands. It's a lot of work. In the meantime - they are on e-book and the devotional can be purchased in e-book, paperback, and hardcover. Here you go. Isn't it nice when you have a teacher who respects and understands what you're doing. I like your writing - just keep plugging away! These days you have to figure out how to make money on Amazon as it's harder - you can try GumRoad as well but you have to do your own marketing.. Wishing you that million!!
I love your story. It's so creative. Keep enjoying that vivid imagination. I also understand about not making much money at writing. As a local journalist, my career sometimes feels more like a hobby. But I still love doing it!
